Al-Istiqlal University Celebrated the Day of Tree

On Tuesday 24th, January 2017, under the supervision of Jericho governor Mr. Majed Fetyani and the Ministry of Agriculture, the university celebrated on the occasion of the Day of Tree as a sequence of greening Palestine program. This event carried out in the presence of the governor of Jericho Brigadier Majed Fetyani, the former governor of Jericho Mr. Sami Salim, the assistant of technical affairs in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Mohammad Shuhburi, - the manager of agriculture in Jericho  Mr. Ahmad Al-Faris, As well as other quests. They were welcomed by Dr. Abdel Nasser Qadoumi, his vice presidents for military, administrative and academic affairs, and a number of academic, military and administrative staffs.  

 

The ceremony commenced in a music by the Musical Band for the Folk Songs, followed by the Palestinian national anthem, some verses of the Holy Quran were recited, and a one-minute silence for the souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

 

On his part, Dr. Abdel Nasser Qadoumi welcomed all attendees sending the greetings of chairman of the board of Trustees Major General Tawfiq Tirawi. Al Qadoumi expressed the importance of this event that forms a special identity for the Palestinian people since tree has a special significance in the culture of the Palestinian people with national and economic dimensions.  

Dr. Abdel Nasser Qadoumi confirmed the strong links between the Palestinian people and the land as an economic wealth especially olive tree which grown and produced us everywhere and every time. This tree represents the steadfastness of the Palestinian people wishing that the relation between the Palestinian citizen and his land continues and fosters  

 

Brig.Majed Fetyani, the governor of Jericho and the Jordan valley, welcomed the attendants stressing the importance of this day which the Palestinian people celebrates every year will continue till green Palestine comes back and the end of occupation. Then the policy of greening Palestine, the environment and its balance comes back. Palestine deserves our efforts, the occupation’s assaults are not only on the Palestinian people but also on the trees and stones because the Israelis know these trees are deeply rooted in the land and their history belongs to every Palestinian.

In the end, he thanked all the efforts consolidating the affiliation of the Palestinian citizen to his land. He wished that Palestine comes back green full of trees and natural resources.

 

For his part, Mohammad Shuhburi, the assistant of technical affairs in the Ministry of Agriculture, delivered his speech on this occasion confirming the role of Al-Istiqlal university in building State of Palestine by its young and scientific elements. This event comes as a sequence of activities of greening Palestine adopted by His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas through providing free saplings for all sectors of the Palestinian people to reinforce the Palestinian steadfastness against the Israeli occupation and seize the expansion of settlements.      

Ashuhburi indicated that the ministry distributed around two million forest sapling trees from nurseries of the Ministry of Agriculture, and purchased about two million fruit sapling trees from private nurseries in a step for preventing the natural factors, desertification and reducing the phenomenon of climate change to achieve green Palestine.

The participants went around for planting forest trees next to Faculty of Law.
