President Mahmoud Abbas visits Al-Istiqlal University and opens Colleges and Sport Centers

Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the State of Palestine and the Supreme Commander of the Palestinian security forces, visited Al-Istiqlal University and opened the Faculty of Martyr Khalil Al-Wazir for Administrative and Military Sciences, Martyr Atef Bseiso Center for Sports and Martyr Mamdouh Sidam Sports Hall, on the campus of the University in Jericho, on Saturday 4th of May 2019.

HE Maj. Gen. Tawfik Tirawi, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University, and Prof. Dr. Saleh Abu Osbaa, the President of the University, with his Academic and Military deputies, received the president and the delegation accompanying him from the Central Committee of Fateh Movement, some national leaders, ministers and personalities, as well as personalities from the local and civil community in the governorate of Jericho and Jordan Valley.

The President Abbas addressed the students of Al-Istiqlal University, during his tour in the field of Martyr Abu Ali Eyad, saying: "Our sons and daughters,  the sons of this great scientific edifice that graduated a large number of young men and women and the latest was the students of  “Al Samoud Regiment”. What we see and hear about your University make us proud and we deliver this pride to the whole world and we are inviting them to see this scientific and security progress. You are part of the nation's foundation and we are depending on God first and on you secondly for the sake of the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital".

As for the Deal of the Century, President Abbas told the reporters that: "From the oldest men to the youngest Palestinian child, we reject the Deal of the Century, and we will be patient with you and with your honor". Regarding Kushner's remarks, he said: "We do not accept and do not expect to do anything positive to us and all the American offers are rejected”.

Moreover, President Abbas expressed his pride in honoring the Palestinian martyrs through the opening of the College of the Administrative and Military Sciences and the Sports Centers, saying that "We honor this group of martyrs, we also honor all of our Palestinian martyrs, and those who do not respect their history will not respect their future. The three martyrs were: Khalil Al-Wazir “Abu Jihad”, Mamdouh Sidam and Atef Bseiso.

For his part, HE Maj. Gen. Tawfiq Tirawi and on the behalf of Al-Istiqlal University, its students and its Military and Academic staff gave a briefing about Al-Istiqlal University, stressing that the oath of the students is to stand behind the President, the Palestinian leadership and the protection of the Palestinian people until the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with its capital Jerusalem, thanking the President for his permanent sponsorship of the University since 10 years ago.
