The Directorate of Education launches the activities of the Educational Guidance Forum on School Violence in partnership with Al-Istiqlal University

The Ministry of Education, in partnership with Al-Istiqlal University, organized the activities of the Educational Guidance Forum entitled “School Violence: Causes and Solutions", which lasts for two days.

The forum aims to concentrate on the phenomenon of violence, finding mechanisms to reduce it, focusing on the preventive aspects, which promote positive behavior among students and improving their academic achievement.

The event is under the patronage and participation of Prof. Dr. Marwan Awrtani, the Minister of Education, in the presence of Dr. Rajaa Sweidan, the Deputy for Administrative and Financial Affairs of Al-Istiqlal University, Mr. Mohammed Al-Hawash, the Director-General of Guidance and Special Education at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Basem Erekat, the Director of Ramallah and Al-Bireh’s Directorate of Education, Dr. Azmi Balawna, the Director of Jericho’s Directorate of Education, Representatives from Al-Quds Open University, the Syndicate of Social and Psychologists, the Juvenile Prosecution, the Family Protection Police, the Students of School Parliaments, and the Parents' Central Council.

In this context, Prof Dr. Awrtani stressed the importance of partnership with Universities and the civil and local community institutions to develop the educational process and its role in preserving the national identity and the Palestinian resilience.

Furthermore, he mentioned the necessity of coming up with recommendations and researches considering the school as the second home for the students which will facilitate the possibility of understanding this environment and contributing to its development.

Moreover, he stressed the need for coming out with recommendations to discuss it and setting policies to reduce the phenomenon of violence, noting the importance of dealing with the measurable indicators and focusing on outputs and results, praising the role of the student parliaments in this framework.

For his part, Mr. Erekat reviewed the most important procedures which were taken by the Directorate to control the phenomenon of violence by communicating the administrations of the various schools and the educational guides, to specify its causes and address it through the different programs and activities, besides the activation of the role of student parliaments.

Dr. Sweidan, in turn, welcomed the attendees, stressing the role and mission of Al-Istiqlal University in reducing the violence, noting the role of the family as an important element in facing this phenomenon in cooperation with civil society institutions and the official institutions, thanking the Ministry of Education for its interest and keenness in reducing the violence.

It is noteworthy to mention that the forum included many movies which were produced by students, on the issues of violence in all its aspects and dimensions.
