Al-Istiqlal University, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Ministry of Education, hosted an introductory orientation day for the high school students, in cooperation with representatives of (29) Universities and colleges. This event was sponsored by the Palestine Telecommunications Company (Paltel) - Jawwal, in the presence of HE Maj. Gen. Dr. Tawiq Al-Tirawi, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University, Prof. Dr. Hamdan Taha, the Deputy for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rajaa Sweidan, the Deputy for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Mr. Ayman Al-Hodali, the Director of Student Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Azmi Balawna, the Director of Education in Jericho and Al-Aghwar Governorate, Mr. Amin Ouda, the Director of Education in Salfit Governorate, Mr. Bashar Anbousi, the Representative of the Palestinian Ministry of Education, and several representatives of the governmental sectors and private institutions, inside the campus of the University, on Monday 17th of February 2020.
Maj. Gen. Al-Tirawi met the students, providing them some guidance and advice, mentioning the nature of the military life and the love spreads by the military uniform, stressing the importance of knowledge, reading and having culture about our homeland, its terrain and history, adding that Al-Istiqlal University was built as a challenge for the occupation, besides being for the poor people, and the sons of the Palestinian prisoners, martyrs and injures, noting that they are the future leaders in building our society until having our freedom.
Furthermore, he said: “You are the sons of the great leaders who gave us the flag, founded the nucleus of Palestinian national work and led the liberation movement from the occupation.” and Palestine will be liberated by science, unity, and power until having our independent country, pointing out through his speech to the Palestinian cause saying “The deal of century will fall if we unite, learn, educate, and protect our readers and our lands from the settlers, then we will be able to fail all the conspiracies that are being waged against our Palestinian cause.”
For his part, Prof. Dr. Taha welcomed the attendees, referring to the importance of the activities of the guiding day for the high school students, providing an introductory brief about Al-Istiqlal University, its system, and its academic and military specialties which meet the needs of the Palestinian security institution, besides serving the Palestinian civil society different categories.
Moreover, Dr. Balawna stressed the importance and the role of guiding days for the students, which introduce them to the Universities and the systems used, to facilitate their choice of the different specializations.
In conjunction, Mr. Al-Hodali praised the efforts of Al-Istiqlal University for hosting this kind of activities, Stressing the importance of holding these days, in a way that reflects the Ministry’s keenness to provide the necessary guidance for the students, in terms of choosing the appropriate specializations which are needed for the Palestinian the labor market, saying: “These days were launched from the heart of Jerusalem and reaching the Al-Istiqlal University - the incubator Science".
It is noteworthy to mention that the activities of the indicative day included several introductory overviews of the University’s educational programs, besides the participation of the different Palestinian Universities and colleges in presenting their educational programs, providing advisory brochures. Also, a short introductory film was presented for the students about the University, with organizing a tour over its buildings to get acquainted with the facilities and colleges, where approximately (1000) secondary male and female students were targeted from the governorates of Jericho and Al Aghwar, Salfit and Tubas.
