HE Maj. Gen. Al-Tirawi receives the Indian Ambassador to Palestine

HE Maj. Gen. Tawfiq Al-Tirawi, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Istiqlal University, and Prof. Dr. Saleh Abu Osba, the President of the University, received Mr. Mukul Arya, the Indian Ambassador to Palestine, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Sobou, the deputy for Academic Affairs, Brig. Gen. Salman Tayser Abdallah, the deputy for Military Affairs, Dr. Rajaa Sweidan, the deputy for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and the deans of the faculties.

HE Maj. Gen. Al-Tirawi welcomed the ambassador, stressing the historical relationship that unites Palestine and India, its supportive stance for the Palestinians and their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. Also, he discussed the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries, especially that India is one of the developed countries in the political, military and technical fields, and a large number of Palestinians received their education there, and occupied positions of decision-making.

For his part, Mr. Arya thanked Al-Istiqlal University for the hospitality and reception, pointing out the complete readiness to provide support and study the plans and prospects of common interest, the most important of which are academic exchanges, specialized language courses, training programs in the fields of security and technical sciences, besides the familiarization with Indian culture and its various aspects.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Abu Osba praised the Indian position toward the Palestinian cause, and its aspiration to develop ways of bilateral partnership, especially with the existence of a prior memorandum of understanding with the University of Jamia Millia Islamia. And, he discussed the need to make more agreements in a manner that intersects with the University’s specializations, and its developmental orientations to establish new colleges, including media and nursing, besides providing postgraduate scholarships.  

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Al-Sobou stressed the importance of harnessing the capabilities and overcoming difficulties to achieve the desired cooperation, through exchanging experiences with India, enhancing the skills of the educational team and students in the fields of cybersecurity, research and scientific studies, and establishing a specialized center to promote and strengthen the Indo-Palestinian relations.

For her part, Dr. Sweidan stressed the importance of exchanging experiences with India in the technological field, and the use of modern methods in human resource management, besides holding English language courses for the University students and staff by experts and specialists.

Also, the deans of the faculties discussed several proposals related to the development of the newly established Faculty of Information Technology, the introduction of new courses, and distinguished programs in forensic analysis, DNA, and computer science, in addition to the possibility of supporting the University’s strategy in transforming it into a completely green facility through the use of alternative energy and the smart agriculture methods.

It is noteworthy to mention that Al-Istiqlal University signed a cooperation agreement with Jamia Millia Islamia University in 2015, and it was renewed in 2018, and it discussed the cooperation with many Indian Universities during the meeting.
