Al-Istiqlal University Inaugurates a Course on “Fair-Trial Guarantees” in partnership with the Independent Commission for Human Rights

The Department of Legal Clinic at Al-Istiqlal University inaugurated a course entitled " Fair-Trial Guarantees ", in cooperation with the Independent Commission for Human Rights represented by Mr. Anas Bawatna, the Community Advocacy Coordinator, in the presence of Dr. Abdallah Mahmoud, the Dean of the College of Law, Ms. Rana Al-Assi, the Head of Department, Dr. Fadi Alawneh, and Dr. Osama Darraj, in the tourist village / Jericho.

Dr. Mahmoud talked about the concept of human rights, and how to promote and protect them in the light of the national legislation and relevant international standards and agreements, besides the importance of reducing the gap between imposing the law, maintaining the public system, and freedoms, and the need to adhere to fair trial guarantees at all stages.

Furthermore, Mr. Bawatna said that the Independent Commission for Human Rights is always ready to provide all available capabilities to carry out workshops and meetings in partnership with the Al-Istiqlal University, noting that it is the ninth consecutive session over the past years, in the context of increasing students’ awareness and knowledge of the legal affairs.

The course continues for four consecutive days and targets the students of law and police science (third year). Also, the program includes field visits to the tomb of the martyr Yasser Arafat, the Military Judiciary Authority, and the Independent Commission for Human Rights.
