In honor of her spirit and as an extension of the free speech and the voice of truth, Al-Istiqlal University named the college of media after the martyr Shireen Abo Akleh.

In this regard, HE Maj. Gen. Tawfiq Al-Tirawi, the chairman of the board of trustees of Al-Istiqlal University, confirmed that this initiative comes in the fulfillment of the good influence of the martyr Shireen Abo Akleh, the icon of the Palestinian media, the eye of truth and its mirror, who carried the responsibility of conveying the suffering of the Palestinians to the whole world, and she did not hesitate for a moment to document and archive the memory of the Palestinian cause among the whirring of bullets and the sound of bombs. Also, Shireen represented the Palestinian cause in most of its paths, manifestations, and struggle stations over 25 years of a journey full of giving, distinction, and belonging.

Furthermore, he added, “The hateful occupation not only assassinated her voice, but also tried to bring down her coffin yesterday, but the Palestinian narrative has not and will not fall, and the future generations that grew up on Abo Akleh's words will remain a protective preserver of identity and national heritage and we will complete her lofty message through a free and fair media education which will start from Al-Istiqlal University".

For his part, Prof. Dr. Saleh Abu Osba pointed out the importance of embracing the name of the Martyr Abo Akleh who gathered through her martyrdom all the parts of Palestine, and to have a firm presence in this scientific edifice, as long as it has been an integral part of the collective concern, and hope for the restoration of our legitimate rights. Also, she has a prominent role in the formulation of Palestinian media content, and its phrases still resonate in minds.
