1- Oral Communication (1).
This course aims to expose cadets to the principles and skills of effective communication between individuals. It focuses on the verbal and non-verbal channels, person perception, conflict resolution, listening.
This course emphasizes higher level skills such as debating, giving presentations, inference, defending ideas, using telephone skills, etc. English for work and real world situations are emphasized through exposing cadets to listening activities and through speaking situations.
2- Introduction to Linguistics.
This course is an introduction to the study of language. It includes a definition of language as a system of human communication and what human language from other communication systems such as animals communication. Emphasis will be on the various linguistic levels including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and discourse analysis.
3- Vocabulary in Use.
The course aims to deepen and expand students’ knowledge of English vocabulary by 1) enlarging their productive and receptive vocabulary stores in a thematic framework; 2) providing insights into the mechanisms of vocabulary lea
ing and acquisition as well as monolingual dictionary use; and 3) familiarizing them with the rules of word formation. Through exercises in the four major skills, (with focus on reading and speaking, though). Cadets will be introduced to the advanced vocabulary of a variety of topics, whereby they will also gain a more profound understanding of the aspects of word knowledge: form (homonyms), meaning (confusing word pairs, connotations, etc.) and use (collocations, word grammar, etc.).
4- Reading (1)
This course aims at developing cadets' language competency in reading and writing. Also, it aims to develop their cognitive skills such as analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating as well as developing the language skills essential for academic success. It enables cadets to read and write about a variety of topics such as: job interviews and strong first impression, how to make food taste good, what does it take to be successful, technology and our life, why do people help each other, advertising, fear factors, how can we make cities better places to live, money, social networking sites.
5- Oral Communication (2)
This course aims at providing cadets with lea
ing situations to understand spoken English and to express themselves verbally. This comes through a variety of classroom activities, language laboratory exercises, and oral presentations. Cadets improve their skills in speaking and listening.
Conversational English in law enforcement context. Emphasis is on effective communication for specific tasks such as listening for the main topics ideas, asking for information, telling a story, and others as related to cadets real life situations in workplace.
6- Reading (2)
This course gives cadets basic techniques for efficient reading of academic texts. Cadets are exposed to academic texts in English from various disciplines. It focuses is on vocabulary, comprehension and strategies for engagement with the text. Also, authentic security, military, colonial and police topics associated with the security servicemen will be given.
7- English for the Military (1)
This course is an introduction to the English for local and inte
ational cooperation. It contains relevant and functional English language material applicable to military personal to the cadets with no real experience. In this class, cadets will lea
how to introduce themselves in the first day in the military. Topics will include boot camp, to be a solders, military organization, military technology, headquarters and patrol. The course contains a variety of military life topics. Cadets will be able to think critically, appreciate military language and prepared with the basics of workplace English.
8- Translation (1)
This course aims at providing cadets with basic skills of translation in both Arabic and English. It provides them with sufficient training in translating simple, compound, and complex sentences from English into Arabic and from Arabic into English. A variety of texts in different disciplines will be used for translation. The course focuses on problematic areas in translation from English and Arabic, particularly the differences between Arabic and English in word order, position of adjectives, noun endings, etc. The course also examines the influence of cultural difference on translation and provides a brief introduction to translation theories.
9- Translation (2)
This course emphasizes translation of security, military, political, business and publicity materials, including practice in simultaneous translation.
10- English Grammar in Use.
This course introduces cadets to both descriptive and prescriptive approaches to the grammar of English language. It describes grammar not as a mere theory but as an enabling tool for authentic language practice by presenting how people use grammar in real life conversations and texts. It also caters for some English grammatical rules as a solution for using grammar effectively. It provides for rules that are relevant to successful practical communication. These may include knowledge of basic grammar terms, subject-verb agreement rules, English tenses etc. The Course aims at addressing grammar issues that students encounter in their daily speech, writing, reading and listening - to address the issue of grammatical errors that affect effective communication.
11- English for the Military (2)
English for Military 2 is designed for cadets who have completed English for Military1 level 1. Cadets come to English for Military 2 with and understanding of the fundamentals of English for Military 1. English for Military 2 has an increased focus on the relevant and functional English language material applicable to military personal. In this class, cadets will lea

about leaders and leadership. In this class, students will lea
new abbreviations used in the army. In addition to fostering language skills, we will discuss general topics related to security services.
